GM moves towards driverless electric

General Motors is buying Californian company Strobe in a further step along the road to driverless electric vehicles.

Strobe produces laser imaging technology called Lidar, a key component for autonomous EVs.

It’s reported Strobe will work with the GM Cruise Automation team working on Chevrolet Bolts in San Francisco to develop Lidar further.

Sensors, for instance, could be drastically reduced in size, also lowering costs.

GM recently announced plans to add 20 battery electric and fuel cell vehicles to its range by 2023.
