All new cars zero emissions by 2030: Netherlands

The Netherlands government has confirmed its plan to ban new petrol and diesel cars by 2030.

Its detailed plan includes making all new cars emission-free by 2030 – virtually banning petrol- and diesel-powered cars in favour of EVs, electrek reports.

The four coalition parties have been negotiating since the March election and released an agreed plan this week.

Under ‘mobility and passenger transport’, the NL Times says that by 2030 “all cars in the Netherlands must be emission free”.

Electrek says it’s been told that’s “all new cars”, like countries with similar ban proposals.

EVs in the Netherlands are under 2% market share, with Tesla tops – having more than 8000 cars there.

The United Kingdom, Scotland France, China and California are working towards similar goals.
