Lynk & Co EV brand likely here?

Lynk & Co, a brand of Volvo’s parent company Geely geared towards young professionals, is flagging its global expansion intention during the next four years, including a New Zealand launch.

The ‘Smart Geely 2025’ strategy is designed to boost Geely’s sales to 3.65 million world-wide and include its all-electric Zero EV.

“Lynk & Co will expand its global presence by entering Russia, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand among others,” the strategy says, but Volvo Cars New Zealand says it has had no other communication around this yet.

As well as offering a vehicle subscription service overseas, Lynk & Co has a variety of SUVs and cars using Volvo’s platforms, including the 01 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with 51km electric range with its next model the Zero offering 700km range from its 100kWh battery pack and all-wheel drive.

Lynk & Co plans five new electrified vehicles by 2025, Geely also aiming to produce a new battery-swapping brand and five new battery-swappable EVs by 2023.

Geely Auto brand is reportedly focusing on developing Eastern Europe, Middle East, South-East Asia and South America markets before considering New Zealand and Australia  – introducing new energy products to European and Asia-Pacific markets as well.

Lynk & Co recently celebrated five years of its shareable mobility since launching in Berlin on October 20, 2016.

The first online store opened for pre-sales in 2017 and immediately received 6000 orders in two minutes 17 seconds, it says.

The brand quickly established itself in the market with record numbers of Lynk & Co cars delivered to customers in its first year, becoming the world’s fastest-selling new brand.

Since the European launch in 2020, Lynk & Co has found success with members signing up to its flexible month-to-month membership, with more than 90% of Lynk & Co members opting for that, choosing flexible access to a car rather than ownership.

It now has more than 27,000 members in Europe.

Members can lower their monthly costs when they share their cars and change or cancel their membership with one month’s notice. Alternatively, if a user doesn’t need a car of their own, they can still sign up for a membership to borrow from other members and pay-per-use, while accessing all perks that come with being in the Lynk & Co community.

Four clubs exist across Europe in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Berlin, and Lynk & Co’s home city of Gothenburg, with more to come across major European cities.
