Photos of the range-topping GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 from the November 2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas are provided by GM Authority.

The ute (or pickup as it’s known in the US) is finished in Interstellar White offset with a variety of black trim like all GMC Hummer Edition 1 vehicles, reservations going within minutes of opening.

How long before the Hummer EV range will be available in New Zealand and Australia seems to be anyone’s guess.

Standard US spec for the EV Edition 1 includes transparent sky panels, the Extreme Off-Road Package which includes 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT Tires and 18-inch black aluminium wheels, plus front e-lockers with virtual rear lockers, ball spline half shafts, skid plates, and rocker protectors.

It includes 800-volt DC fast charge capability for up to 160km range in 10 minutes, about 560km range on a single charge, 3.4 tonnes estimated towing capacity, and 590kg payload.

The Hummer EV has a three-motor powertrain providing 735kW of power and also comes with a two-motor setup as well as an SUV body style.

Sitting on the all-electric GM BT1 platform, power comes from GM’s Ultium Battery and Ultium Drive technologies, with the ute’s production already starting at the GM Factory Zero plant previously known as GM Detroit-Hamtramck and the first US deliveries expected this month.

Next is the EV3X in 2022 then the EV2X in 2023 (both SUV models also due that year) and the EV2 ute in 2024 followed by the EV2 SUV.

One report suggests a couple of e-bikes could fit in the back of the EV Edition 1 which has a fold-down, multi-step tailgate making rear access easier.

An odd touch is reported as a driver’s footrest shaped like former astronaut Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit boot, apparently because the Hummer EV designers considered the vehicle a “moonshot”.
