Polestar 2 gets more range, efficiency and performance

Polestar-2-update

Polestar says it has improved the 2024 Polestar 2’s range, efficiency and performance while reducing its carbon footprint.

The EV can now travel up to 22% further, consume up to 9% less energy, and charge up to 34% faster, thanks to hardware upgrades including larger batteries and new motors.

“Our engineers have worked hard to integrate important upgrades that really enhance the overall package, and they’ve made it even better,” says Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath.

The long-range single motor is now certified for up to 654km (WLTP) range, and maximum DC charging speed is now up to 205kW for versions with a new 82kWh battery.

New motors are more efficient, and a change to rear-wheel drive for single-motor versions and a rear-bias for the dual motor version also means Polestar 2 has more power delivery benefitting from weight shifting over the driven wheels, says Polestar.

Since Polestar 2 deliveries began in 2020, its cradle-to-gate carbon footprint has been continuously reduced, the company adds.

The result is a total CO2e saving of 12%, or three tonnes in three years. Low-carbon aluminium in wheels and the battery tray, a switch to renewable electricity in the factory, and for the latest MY24, improved battery chemistry, are some contributing factors, Polestar explains.

Polestar’s 2024 long-range dual motor variant now has up to 591km range, up to 17.2kWh/100km energy consumption, up to 205KW DC charging speed and a 23.1tCO2e carbon footprint, while its standard-range single motor has up to 532km range, up to 15.9kWh/100km energy consumption, up to 135kW DC charging speed and a 22.5tCO2e carbon footprint.

Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, Polestar’s cars are available online in 27 markets globally across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

It plans to have a line-up of five performance EVs by 2026, including the Polestar 4 SUV coupé launching in phases through 2023 and into 2024, the Polestar 5 four-door GT and Polestar 6 electric roadster.
