Down to the wire for Kiwi ABB FE drivers
London’s double-header on July 20 and 21 will determine the ABB FIA Formula E world champion – with two Kiwis among the front runners.
Jaguar TCS Racing’s Nick Cassidy had a chance to grab it at the Portland ePrix double-header in the US but instead had two non-points scoring finishes.
Cassidy (pictured right) has 167 points with fellow Kiwi and teammate Mitch Evans (centre) and TAG Heuer Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein (left) tied on 155 points just 12 points behind Cassidy.
Evans was third in Round 14, and Wehrlein clung onto fourth after sustaining damage on Sunday June 30.
Antonio Felix da Costa (TAG Heuer Porsche) also gets into the hunt on 134 points, among seven drivers in with a chance as the London event looms.
The others include Oliver Rowland (Nissan Formula E) on 131 points, Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Penske) with 129 points and Jake Dennis (Andretti Formula E) who has 122 points.
The Teams’ championship will also be decided after London.
Jaguar TCS Racing leads with 322 points, but TAG Heuer Porsche is catching up with 289 points.
These two teams also face off in the inaugural Manufacturers’ title, led by Porsche on 407 points with Jaguar just 19 points behind on 388.
