Kiwis finish ABB FE Miami E-Prix in 15th and 16th

Jaguar TCS racing Miami 2025

Jaguar TCS Racing finished the Miami E‑Prix outside the points after a “difficult race” that saw Nick Cassidy end in 15th and Mitch Evans in 16th place.

A safety car and subsequent time penalty impacted Cassidy’s result while fellow Kiwi Evans had his race “ruined through unavoidable contact with two other cars”, leaving him 10th in the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E Drivers’ World Championship, with Cassidy 18th, says Jaguar TCS Racing which is fifth in the Manufacturers’ standings and eighth in the Teams’ World Championship after five rounds.

A double‑header in Monaco on May 3 and 4, is where both Kiwis hope to improve.

Cassidy and Evans lined up in 13th and 14th respectively at the start the Miami E‑Prix at the Homestead‑Miami Speedway circuit on April 12.

Both were able to navigate their way through the field and into points‑scoring positions.

On lap 16, Cassidy activated four‑minutes of attack mode – switching his Jaguar I‑Type 7 from 300kW to 350kW and all‑wheel drive – and had begun moving up through the field when a safety car was deployed which cost him the use of his remaining minute and 30 seconds of attack mode advantage, severely compromising his race, says Jaguar TCS Racing.

On his 20th lap, Evans was caught up an incident between Maximilian Günther of DS Penske and Jake Hughes of Maserati in the turn 10/11 chicane, it says.

“With these two cars stopped in front of him, Mitch had nowhere to go, the contact effectively ending his race. This incident instigated another safety car, followed by a red flag.”

Cassidy finished eighth but received a five‑second time penalty for exceeding track limits, confirming his final result at 15th, while Evans was able to restart but from the back of the grid and finished 16th, says Jaguar TCS Racing.

“For a combination of factors, some in and some out of our control, we didn’t get the result we were capable of,” says Jaguar TCS Racing team principal James Barclay who expects better in Monaco.

Evans won in Monaco last year but he says more work is needed to get where they want to be.
