Video: EV among four Goodwood crashes
The expensive Lotus Evija X prototype electric hypercar – reportedly worth about NZ$3.7 million – had one of the more spectacular crashes at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 11-14).
It slammed into haybales near the hill run start on July 11, Lotus saying the Evija X is a one-off track version of its Evija electric hypercar.
“Following a formal evaluation by both Goodwood and Lotus, asymmetric grip caused by overcorrection during rapid acceleration at the start line was determined to be the cause,” says Lotus, adding the driver was unharmed and minimal damage was caused to the car.
About three other crashes were reported at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, mainly to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Many EVs featured at the festival, including those from Polestar, Genesis, Jaguar, MG and Honda.
