Porsche and Frausher Shipyard produce new electric runabout

Porsche and Austrian-based Frauscher Shipyard have produced a runabout 850 Fantom with closed foredeck and cabin which follows the 850 Fantom Air open e-boat.

The new sports boat features an electric drive unit from the Porsche Macan Turbo and will premiere at the “boot Düsseldorf” boat and water sports show, January 18-26, 2025.

After the open eFantom (named the best electric boat in November 2024 in the Best of Boats Award) the closed version 850 Fantom is now also available as part of a limited first edition of 25 units.

“Like our sports cars, the eFantom offers an exclusive experience and extraordinary performance,” says Porsche AG finance and IT board member and executive board deputy chair Lutz Meschke.

Both 8.67-metre long and 2.49-metre-wide electric boats have impressive acceleration, abundant thrust, confident performance, timeless design and luxurious equipment, says Porsche, adding it uses the most powerful variant of its electric SUV – the rear-axle engine of the Macan Turbo.

In the boat, the permanently excited synchronous motor can deliver up to 400kW, the brand says.

“It sits in the hull of the boat and is directly controlled via a Z-drive.

“The control units are housed in a waterproof box emblazoned with the Porsche logo. “The efficiency of the motor is optimised by state-of-the-art power electronics and the use of silicon carbide in the pulse inverter enables particularly high switching frequencies.

“The high-voltage battery with a gross capacity of 100kWh also comes from the Macan. “The wire-rope mount suspension absorbs the immense shocks that inevitably occur in waves and at high speeds.”

The new 850 Fantom has room for up to seven passengers.

“The swimming platform at the rear leads to a generous lounge area with comfortable sunbathing pads,” says Porsche, adding the steering wheel and seats are in the characteristic sports car design – including the Porsche Crest on the headrests.

“In the cabin, spacious seating and lounging areas invite visitors to linger.

“As with sports cars from Porsche, customisation also plays a major role in boats from Frauscher. Both the upholstery in the cabin and the hull and deck can be selected according to personal preferences.”

The eFantom has a folding sunshade, while a high-end audio system with Bluetooth and wifi connectivity is also standard.

“It can be controlled via the 12-inch infotainment display, in which an echo sounder and chart plotter are also integrated,” says Porsche.

“As with the Macan, a second screen is also offered for the co-driver.

“The eFantom is also equipped with LED ambient lighting and LED underwater lighting at the rear.”

Frauscher handles final assembly, the sales logistics and the after sales management.

Driving modes are “Docking”, “Range”, “Sport”, and “Sport Plus” which can do 90km/h (49 knots).

Slow driving range is about 100km, while cruising speed is about 41km/h or 22 knots, says Porsche, adding the eFantlom has DC charging with up to 270kW and AC charging with up to 11kW.
