Ikea to launch zero-emission deliveries with NZ Post, Mainfreight
Ikea will roll out electric home delivery in Auckland from day one, partnering with NZ Post and Mainfreight to run electric vans and trucks and aiming for 100% zero-emission delivery in the metro area — a first for a home-furnishing retailer in New Zealand.
The partners plan to extend zero-emissions delivery across the wider network. To support the fleet, Ikea has installed fast-charging infrastructure at its Sylvia Park store and Māngere warehouse, supplied, installed and maintained by Jump Charging.
Mainfreight NZ country manager Carl George commented: “We are especially excited to support Ikea in offering 100% zero emission home deliveries in Auckland using a fully electric local fleet, powered by renewables… Zero emission deliveries for Ikea will be managed from Mainfreight’s new, Green Star 5 rated Mainfreight 2Home facility in Ōtāhuhu, with solar and DC truck charging.”

From the moment the Sylvia Park store opens later this year, Ikea’s full range will be available nationwide via home delivery and a network of 29 Pick Up Points operated by Mainfreight (from Kaitaia to Invercargill).
Smaller parcels will move through NZ Post, with larger flat-packs on Mainfreight trucks.
NZ Post chief customer officer Bryan Dobson adds: “NZ Post is excited to support Ikea with their entry into New Zealand… We know New Zealanders are going to be super excited to see their well-known blue van pull up, with their iconic Ikea purchase safely stowed inside, delivered right into their hands.”
Ikea NZ fulfilment manager Jan Vanderstappen says accessibility nationwide was central to the launch.
“We are ensuring customers can access Ikea home furnishing solutions efficiently and affordably; whether that is taking away their products instantly from the store or via Click and Collect, receiving a delivery to the front door, or collecting an order at a near-by Pick Up Point.”
Orders can be placed via the Ikea website/app, by phone, or in-store. Options include Click & Collect at Sylvia Park (with 24/7 lockers), Pick Up Point collection at 29 locations, or home delivery to the door or to a chosen room.
Pricing for delivery and collection will be confirmed closer to launch, with order tracking via email/SMS. The Sylvia Park opening date will be revealed 4 September 2025.
