NZ Post responds to Paxster story

NZ-Post-Paxster-3

NZ Post says it will continue to use its Paxster electric delivery vehicles in the meantime after recently confirming a strategic business direction to consolidate mail delivery into its parcel network in future.

“This will impact on the requirements for any separate delivery modes for mail,” says a NZ Post spokesperson.

“Regarding Mike Scaife’s request, we had told him it was not possible to supply a working Paxster, but we are in the process of investigating whether we could donate parts (batteries, etc) to him.”

“At present, our Paxsters remain the primary mode for mail delivery in cities and large towns around New Zealand.

“We also use electric bicycles and have also investigated electric motorcycles as an option.”

NZ Post says that in the meantime it will continue to need its existing fleet of Paxsters.

“We are only removing Paxsters from our fleet where they are irreparably damaged or where repairs and maintenance on them become uneconomically viable,” says the spokesperson.

“NZ Post is committed to finding sustainable solutions for decommissioned vehicles and (to) work with various parties to ensure materials are recycled wherever possible.”
