Mercedes-Benz unveils VLE luxury electric minivan

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the VLE electric minivan, combining S-Class levels of luxury with electric power and minivan practicality.

The German manufacturer says the VLE achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.25 despite its upright minivan profile. The vehicle features Mercedes’ new grille design and star motif headlights as part of a futuristic front-end treatment.

Mercedes has not yet released full dimensions for the VLE but confirms it will be available in short and long-wheelbase configurations.

Interior luxury targets S-Class standards

The VLE’s interior incorporates luxury elements from Mercedes’ flagship S-Class sedan. Seating for up to eight people is available alongside a digital cockpit featuring the MBUX superscreen, panoramic sunroof and electronically controlled rear seats.

A 31-inch rear display folds down from the roof and supports up to 8K resolution. The system is supported by a 22-speaker Burmester sound system.

Additional luxury features include retractable windows within the sliding doors and ambient lighting throughout the cabin. The seating configuration is customisable, with front seats able to turn around or all seats removable entirely.

Dual motor option delivers performance

The VLE will be offered in single and dual motor configurations. The higher-performance dual motor variant can accelerate from 0–100km/h in 6.4 seconds.

Mercedes claims a WLTP range rating of over 700km from the VLE’s 115kWh battery pack. An air suspension system is fitted to ensure ride comfort across different road surfaces.

Late 2026 international launch planned

Mercedes says the VLE will be available in international markets from late 2026, though New Zealand availability has not been confirmed.

The company also plans to introduce a VLS variant at a later date, which is expected to offer higher luxury levels and pricing.
