Ford takes names for Fathom electric ute ahead of early 2027 reveal
Ford is taking names for Fathom pre-order invites in the US, with the reveal and pre-orders due in early 2027.
Ford has started taking names for its Fathom electric ute in the United States, ahead of a full reveal and the opening of pre-orders early next year.
A form on Ford’s US Fathom website lets buyers register for a pre-order invite and updates. Signing up does not reserve a vehicle, and Ford has not asked for a deposit. Pre-orders will open when the production ute is revealed in early 2027, with US deliveries due later in the year.
The Fathom is priced from US$28,350 with the standard-range battery, or US$29,945 including destination charges, making it the cheapest electric vehicle in Ford’s US range. It is the first model on Ford’s Universal EV platform and will be built at Louisville in Kentucky using the company’s new assembly tree process.
Every Fathom will have a lithium iron phosphate battery, bidirectional charging and Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving system. Ford has still not released battery capacity, range, towing or payload figures. Ford Authority reports that the company wants to sell 100,000 in the Fathom’s first year on sale.
A Ford spokesperson told Electrek there is “no change” to the 2027 launch plan, although chief executive Jim Farley has acknowledged that building the new platform at scale, on cost and on time will be a challenge.
The Fathom is currently a left-hand drive product, and Ford has not confirmed right-hand drive production. It has trademarked the Fathom name in Australia.
Ford New Zealand managing director Annaliese Atina told EVs and Beyond in September that nothing has been ruled out for this market.
“We need an electrified product. Yes, absolutely. So yeah, we’re open to looking at anything,” she said at the time.
