The AA reports strong enquiries from dealers for contactless vehicle registration and supply of number plates for new vehicles since the country moved into COVID-19 level three.

“Our entry compliance sites have a lot of work to do to clear the backlog of imports, and we’ve received lots of bookings from dealers for AA vehicle appraisals,” a spokesperson says.

Meanwhile, the AA’s member services divisions have been rushed off their feet.

Batteries that had gone flat in cars not used during the Level 4 lockdown accounted for around 80 percent of a record 2098 callouts answered by the AA’s Roadservices yesterday.

That’s close to double the average daily callout rate of 1200, and made yesterday Roadservices’ biggest day ever.

AA’s Motoring Services division was also busy. Its general manager Jonathan Sergelaid says Auto Centres and AA Mobile Vehicle Inspections both received “a huge number” of inquiries and bookings.

“There’s a backlog of work for us to do and we have a very strong pipeline of work for the next few weeks.” He says people are catching up on vehicle servicing, mechanical repair and WoF needs, and getting pre-purchase inspections”
