AA now provides e-bike service

AA Roadservice is extending its cover to AA members’ electric bikes.

Those who have a problem with their e-bike on their route can call *222 or use their AA Roadservice mobile app to summon help.

If roadside help is unsuccessful then the e-bike would be recovered rather like if your car broke down.

Launched on October 16, the new e-bike service has no extra charges for members within a 55km radius. “Beyond that, we will charge a top up for the recovery of the bike back to the member’s home or place of repair,” Roadservice national manager John Healy says.

The AA says e-bikes are fast becoming a popular transport for many.

It has also done a discount deal for members with Bike Barn, which includes a free e-bike service and 10% off an e-bike purchase.

So what happens if an e-bike breaks down on a cycleway?

Roadservice says it will attend breakdowns on formed roads, so there’s no problem if the cycleway is beside a road. If it’s further then Roadservice would aim to meet the rider at the nearest road access point.

Once Roadservice gets more information on e-bike call-outs it might consider further assistance, such as tyre or pedal replacement and chain repairs.
