‘Accessible Streets’ consultation closes May 20, 5pm.

It’s your last chance to make a submission on the government’s Accessible Streets Regulatory Package designed to improve footpath safety and encourage active transport such as e-scooters and e-bikes.

The initial deadline for consultation was extended due to the COVID-19 restrictions but now ends on May 20 at 5pm with submissions likely to account for e-mobility forms and potential conflict with pedestrians, especially the more vulnerable.

The collection of rule changes is proposed by associate transport minister Julie Anne Genter to support the creation of more liveable and vibrant towns and cities.

Everyone who uses the transport network will be affected by these proposed changes, the NZ Transport Agency says.

“We want to be sure we consider your views, and the impact that the proposed new rule and proposed rule changes could have on you.”

The proposed rules also consider recommendations from Improving Road Safety in New Zealand, the 2014 Cycling Safety Panel’s report Safer Journeys for cyclists and the petition of Joanne Clendon in May 2016 on children cycling on the footpath.
