APEC EV policy workshop November 21

The 54th APEC Energy Working Group (EWG) has a special workshop on electric vehicle and hydrogen technology policy when it meets in Wellington, New Zealand, on November 21.

The invitation-only workshop, which will be attended by EVtalk, is organised by the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment.

EVs and hydrogen technologies are becoming important components in the APEC region’s transition to a low-carbon future, the ministry says.
“Continuing growth of the EV and hydrogen technology markets will depend on well-crafted policy settings.”

The workshop has international experts and policymakers in the APEC region discussing the benefits, opportunities and challenges of deploying these technologies.
They’ll also share best policy practice to stimulate the development of the hydrogen and EV markets.

The workshop includes a mix of expert presentations and panel discussions.

The EWG is a voluntary, regionally-based forum operating under the APEC umbrella with participation by all 21 APEC economies.

Launched in 1990, the EWG meets formally twice a year to discuss developments and progress on energy policy issues.

The aim is to further APEC goals to facilitate energy-related-trade and investment, maximising the energy sector’s contribution to the region’s economic and social well-being, while mitigating the environmental effects of energy supply and use.

The New Zealand APEC EWG and associated meetings are from November 20-24.

New Zealand last hosted the EWG in 2007 and Australia’s turn was in 2016.

Next year’s meetings are in Hong Kong and Peru.
