Audi e-tron GT on the way

The Audi e-tron GT has been seen undergoing camouflaged winter testing in Europe, proof it is not far off production and delivery.

A concept GT was revealed at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, although Audi has yet to release full specifications and pricing for the production version.

The four-door coupe initially had a combined 434kW output and could accelerate to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds.

Production is expected to start in late 2020.

Australia and New Zealand have among the world’s highest uptake of Audi performance cars, so the e-tron GT is likely to be introduced in both countries.

Audi e-tron production is expected to start in Europe at the end of 2020 with overseas showroom arrivals due in the first half of 2021.

Australian and New Zealand deliveries of the e-tron GT are forecast in the second half of next year.

Audi NZ general manager Dean Sheed says that could make it a good 2021 Christmas present.

“So far we have the e-tron SUV in two power levels – the ‘50’ and the ‘55’,” he says.

“They will be joined by the e-tron Sportback later this year and 2021 will see the ‘S’ model of both body styles.

“We are known for our love of the ‘S’ cars and these will top the e-tron SUV range. Then comes the GT.”

Sheed says the e-tron GT is therefore the third e-tron from Audi AG – “still currently a concept but in development”.

“It is co-developed with Porsche (Taycan) and runs the battery system capable of 350kW charging and has the new 800-volt system with a range over 400km and takes just 20 minutes to charge to 80% of the battery.”

Sheed expects the GT to have about 430kW and says it is developed by the Audi Sport GmbH subsidiary.

“We have the highest percentage mix of Audi Sport product sold in the world and the e-tron GT will fit perfectly into both our electrification and Audi Sport family of vehicles,” he says.

“It will be our highest technology car.”
