Battery changes for Nissan, MG and others

Lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) and solid-state batteries are coming for some EVs.

Nissan has announced Japan certification of LFP batteries it hopes to introduce in the 2028 financial year starting with mini-EVs and intends having a battery base in Japan for that and energy storage batteries.

The brand also plans having solid-state batteries in its electric GT-R in about 2028.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) aims to introduce solid-state batteries in its MG brand from the second quarter of 2025, starting with its Cyber GTS with the concept revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed – likely to be a premium two-door hard top produced in limited numbers, reports suggest.

BYD and CATL are among Chinese companies also considering solid-state batteries by 2030.
