Bentley going all-electric by 2030

Bentley’s full range will be electric within 10 years.

The British luxury car manufacturer says every model will have a hybrid option by 2023 and its first EV production car will be launched two years later.

Bentley says in a recorded livestream ‘Beyond 100’ strategy, which considers its future beyond its 100-year history, that everything it produces will be either a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or battery electric (BEV) by 2026.

That will see the company stop producing 12-cylinder engines to being internal combustion engine (ICE) free by 2030 when it will have only BEV models.

Bentley Motors’ chairman and chief executive Adrian Hallmark says the first quarter of this year was a record in its 100-year history, but that turned to record loss with COVID-19’s impact in the second quarter and the company has since bounced back to probably end the year in better shape than it expected and make a profit.

It’s intending to launch two PHEVs next year and aims to become an “end-to-end carbon neutral car brand by 2030”.

Bentley’s Crewe factory will have its environmental impact reduced by 75% within five years, which includes becoming plastic neutral – it already has more than 30,000 solar panels.
