Big crowds for Big Boys Toys

Electric Avenue again proved a hit at the Big Boys Toys opening preview on October 31 at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland.

Celebrating 21 years, the BBT event from November 1-3 features the Audi e-tron in pride of place at Electric Avenue displayed alongside the ABB chargers at site 3040 in the top half of the Driven Hall.

A bevy of electric bikes and other e-mobility forms are stationed throughout the avenue too.

A star attraction last year, electric streamliner motorcycle speedster Eva Hakansson’s three-wheeler Killajoule is back alongside its partly built successor Green Envy due to be completed by Christmas.

ChargeNet NZ unveiled its new 350kW high power charger planned for a Bombay charging station, and is also sponsoring the Electrifying Conversations Conference in conjunction with BBT on November 1.

Conference keynote speaker Philippe Vangeel of the European Association for Electromobility (AVERE) checked out Electric Avenue and was impressed with Mercury’s Evie display. He tried out the virtual reality ride in Mercury’s converted 1957 Ford Fairlane, adding that his surname translates as ‘yellow’, a favourite colour.

Many at the preview also tried the virtual reality ride, expected to remain popular as thousands of people visit the show during the next few days.

Other attractions include the Ferrari Enzo and Mad Mike’s Lamborghini ‘Nimbul’, along with a line-up of classics and hot rods.

World famous FMX rider Levi Sherwood, who has just announced his retirement, and Jed Mildon will be at Big Boys Toys, showing off tricks on the big ramp.

“BBT is the perfect day out with family and friends,” event director Dean Wilson says.
