Big public day expected at EVworld South
A good public turnout is expected on November 24 for the EVworld South conference and expo which opened with a trade day on November 23.
EV City’s David Boot says he’s looking forward to the public open day at the Wigram Air Force Museum.
He says some of the exhibitors like Hyundai, TransNet NZ and YHI have made a tremendous effort for the show.
While it’s a smaller show than the second Auckland EVworld NZ, Boot says the Christchurch venue is more intimate.
He believes the show is a good concept and is sure to attract more exhibitors next time.
EV City’s cutaway Nissan Leaf is proving an attraction – especially from firefighters keen to learn where the battery and main safety disconnect are in the event they attend an incident.
Trade day visitors look over some of the displays.
“We’ve had a number of volunteer firefighters checking out the car,” Boot says.
He says a good effort has come from volunteer organisations like Flip the Fleet and the Better NZ Trust.
Interesting talks have also been provided by many seminar speakers, and the Net Carbon Neutral Towns conference co-hosted at the show provoked discussion.
Visitors on November 24 can test drive or ride in EVs, and also check out electric bikes and e-scooters.
The finals of the EVolicity national challenge for high school students to race three or more wheeled EVs they’ve designed and built is also scheduled for November 24.
