BMW, Nissan add more fast charge EV stations across US

BMW and Nissan have joined forces to increase public access to electric vehicle (EV) charging stations around the US.

The companies announced another batch of 174 new DC fast-charging stations across 33 states to expand on the existing network of 668 stations.

More than 50 of those stations are planned to be installed this year.

The dual-port DC fast charging stations can provide an 80% charge to EVs like the BMW i3 and Nissan LEAF in just 25 minutes.

Each location offers a dual 50kW DC Fast charging station with both CHAdeMO and SAE Combo (CCS) connectors, serving owners of the Nissan LEAF, BMW i3 and EV drivers whose cars are equipped with quick-charge ports, regardless of the brand.

Robert Healey, head of EV infrastructure for BMW of North America, says the expansion of the charging infrastructure will give more drivers the confidence to choose an EV.

“BMW’s continuing collaborations with Nissan and EVgo further demonstrate the company’s commitment to building a robust public charging infrastructure across the country,” Healey says.

The EVgo Network will have more than 600 50kW DC Fast Combo chargers in the next two years. BMW i3 drivers get two years free charging with the purchase of their vehicle.

Nissan LEAF owners can find these chargers using the Nissan LEAF EZ-Charge smartphone app. BMW i3 drivers can easily locate the charging stations with ConnectedDrive in the vehicle, using either the in-vehicle navigation or the BMW ConnectedApp.
