Bond’s new car will be electric

An electric Aston Martin is tipped to be James Bond’s new car in the 25th Bond film next year, filming expected to start this April.

Reports suggest James Bond actor Daniel Craig will be driving an Aston Martin Rapide E, one of only 155 of the electric cars being built by the British manufacturer.

Ian Fleming’s hero is making his first concession to climate change by driving the EV, The Guardian says.

Aston Martin’s relationship with the Bond films started in 1964 when Sean Connery drove a DB5 sports car in Goldfinger. OO7 has also driven the DBS, V8 Vantage Volante and the V12 Vanquish.

The Rapide E will have a top speed of nearly 250km/h, do 0-96.5km/h in under four seconds, have more than 320km range from a 65kWh battery powering two rear motors. It will be capable of a 100kW or higher charge rate using an 800-volt battery system, and sell for around 250,000 pounds.

It’s expected the new Bond movie will be ready in April 2020.
