Bugatti resurrects electric Baby

Bugatti celebrates its 110th anniversary by launching the Baby II electric car.

Like the original Baby produced by Ettore Bugatti in 1922, its production will be limited to 500.

A half-scale car based on the Type 35 racing car was produced for Bugatti’s son Roland on his fourth birthday – but this version will be bigger and can be driven by adults as well.

Like the original, it has electric rear-wheel drive but now includes removable lithium-ion battery packs, regenerative braking and a limited slip differential.

Two power modes include a 1kW ‘child mode’ limited to 20km/h and a 4kW ‘adult mode’ restricted to 45km/h. An optional ‘speed key’ upgrade allows 10kW and disengages the speed limiter.

The Little Car Company will start producing the Baby II in 2020, the car selling out after a 3D-printed prototype featured at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

It costs NZ$50,000, but potential customers can put their names on a waiting list.
