Carl Devlin to head Auckland Light Rail

Civil engineer Carl Devlin will lead Auckland Light Rail from February.

Announcing the head of the country’s largest infrastructure project, NZ Transport Agency chairman Michael Stiassny says Devlin will bring extensive infrastructure expertise to develop world-class electric light rail (modern trams) for Auckland.

While based in Britain, Devlin has led multi-billion investments in major infrastructure projects involving government organisations, local authorities, shareholders, suppliers and investors, including a London Underground subsurface railway upgrade for Transport for London.

He has previously held senior leadership roles with Horizon Nuclear Power, Laing O’Rourke, Transport for London, BAA and Bechtel Infrastructure – all in the United Kingdom.

“I look forward to welcoming Mr Devlin to New Zealand and working with him on the programme to provide light rail between the city centre and Mangere, and to Auckland’s northwest over the next 10 years,” Stiassny says.

The light rail project is expected to cost about $1.8 billion and is expected to be running by about 2028.

The NZ Transport Agency is leading the development of the Auckland Light Rail programme with the support of partners the Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and HLC.
