Video: Cassidy fifth for Jaguar TCS Racing in Jeddah but Evans out
Jaguar TCS Racing’s Nick Cassidy got his first points of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E season, climbing 12 places to finish fifth in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Teammate and fellow Kiwi Mitch Evans made significant progress, running in eighth with energy to spare and with a final Attack Mode to take but his race ended with a brake by wire system hardware issue.
Cassidy snatched fifth on the line from Maserati MSG Racing driver Stoffel Vandoorne to take 10 points, while Evans was forced to retire.
Evans is now seventh in the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship standings, with Cassidy 14th.
Jaguar TCS Racing is seventh after the Jeddah E‑Prix double‑header, while after four rounds of the season and one win Jaguar lies fourth in the Manufacturers’ standings.
The next round of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is in Homestead, Miami on Saturday April 12.
Team principal James Barclay says Jaguar TCS Racing aims to use the break as effectively as possible, focussing on its one‑lap pace.
“All of the core ingredients are there ‑ we have great drivers, a fantastic team and strong Jaguar I‑Type 7 in race trim – so if we can address some of the issues we’ve been facing over one lap then there is no reason why we can’t be in a really strong position for the rest of the season.”
Evans says: “We’ve got work to do between now and Miami but it’s a big gap and I know we will use that wisely and try and address our deficits.”
The first Jeddah race was won by DS Penske team driver Maximilian Günther.
Gunther passed Nissan Formula E Team driver Oliver Rowland, who was second, at the final chicane on the last lap.
Neom McLaren’s teenage rookie Taylor Barnard was third, followed by Mahindra’s Nyck de Vries and Maserati MSG Racing’s Jake Hughes.
Rowland won the second race at Jeddah and moves to the top of the drivers’ standings on 68 points.
Barnard was second and Hughes third in the second Jeddah E-Prix.
