Charge and shop coming to five shopping centres

Kiwi Property expects to have a mix of 42 type one and two chargers across Auckland’s Sylvia Park and LynnMall, Hamilton’s The Base and Centre Place and Palmerston North’s The Plaza shopping centres by March 2020.

It has received $211,209 part funding from the Government’s low emission vehicles contestable fund toward the ‘Charge where you park’ project.

“We’re committed to sustainability and offering free EV charging for our customers is an important part of our holistic environmental strategy,” the company says.

“The move will help improve the experience for our customers and support the growth of public infrastructure.”

The five shopping centres attract about 21 million customers annually, Kiwi Property’s successful round six funding application says.

It’s among 29 projects worth a combined $16.5 million to benefit from the round.

Meanwhile, applications for round seven close at noon on September 13, with results likely to be known mid-December.

A further $3.1 million in government funding is available under this round which maintains support for the public EV charging network and low emission vehicles in a range of sectors, while also targeting smart charging technology innovation, battery refurbishment, recycling and repurposing; and demonstration of low emission vehicles in mobility-as-a-service (MaaS).

Round eight, which opens in February 2020, includes support for publicly available secure electric bike storage.

The fund is administered by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).
