ChargeNet reports record-breaking December
December was a record-breaking month for EV charging sessions across ChargeNet NZ’s network.
EV enthusiasm is unparalleled here with December also seeing 37,156 EV registrations, helping lead to a 38% increase in charging sessions across ChargeNet’s DC fast-charging network from January 1 to December 31, 2021, compared with the year prior.
That’s in spite of COVID restrictions, with the newly introduced red-light traffic system introduced nationwide from midnight on Sunday January 23 to help combat the Omicron variant’s spread not expected to greatly impact on EV charging.
“We’ve also seen a 48% increase in energy delivered across the network, which is in line with more EVs with larger batteries coming into New Zealand,” ChargeNet says.
That’s along with a whopping 52% increase of distinct users accessing the charging network.
Twenty-nine fast chargers were added to the network in 2021, nearing the 300 mark – all showing an increase in charging sessions of between 15% to 51%.
ChargeNet’s most valuable site is the 300kW hyper-rapid charging stations at Bombay – its two other 300kW hyper-rapid charging stations at Taupo and Kaiwaka performing exceptionally well too.
