Chery updates the E5, NZ’s Omoda E5, with bigger screen and massaging seats

Chery has updated the E5 electric SUV, sold in New Zealand as the Omoda E5, for the 2027 model year with a larger touchscreen, ventilated and massaging front seats and a handful of convenience upgrades, with the revised car to be shown publicly for the first time at Everything Electric Sydney this week.

The central infotainment display grows from 12.3 inches to 15.6 inches. The driver’s seat gains four-way lumbar adjustment, massage and ventilation, and the front passenger seat moves from four-way to six-way power adjustment with ventilation added. An electrically operated charging-port cover, an active grille shutter and an auto-dimming interior mirror complete the changes.

The powertrain carries over: a single electric motor producing 155kW and 288Nm, driving the front wheels, with a WLTP range of up to 430km. Standard equipment on the updated car includes 18-inch alloys, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Hello Chery voice assistant, an eight-speaker sound system, synthetic leather with heated front seats, dual-zone climate control and Chery’s full driver assistance suite.

Chery says pricing and availability will be announced closer to the car’s arrival in dealerships. New Zealand timing has not been confirmed; the current Omoda E5 has been on sale here since 2024, when EVs and Beyond reviewed it as an impressive build at a low price, and was recalled last month over an inactive pedestrian warning sound. The MY27 car will be on display at Everything Electric at Sydney Olympic Park from 18 to 20 September, where EVs and Beyond will be on the floor.
