China’s Tesla-like 700km range Xpeng P7 launched

Chinese EV company Xpeng Motors has launched its P7 super-long range, high-performance, fast-charging intelligent EV sports sedan.

Its second production model is immediately available for order in China, in three versions and eight configurations, with customer deliveries starting late June with the price around US$32,462-$49,404.

“The P7’s launch solidifies Xpeng Motors’ leading position in China’s smart EV market,” Xpeng chairman and chief executive He Xiaopeng says.

“Our ability to launch the P7 in the challenging conditions of the COVID-19 crisis is a testament to the strength of our young (five-year-old) company.”

The Xpeng P7 is the first level three autonomy-ready production vehicle in the Chinese market.

It has 706km (NEDC) range and accelerates to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds in some configurations.

Powered by Nvidia’s Drive AGX Xavier system-on-a-chip, delivering 30 trillions of operations per second performance while consuming just 30W of power.

Xpeng Motors describes the P7 as compact, light, efficient, reliable with a German luxury sports style auto brand joint-developed chassis, optimised suspension and layout, Bosch/Brembo braking system with about100% energy recovery, and autonomous driving system Xpilot 3.0 for China’s challenging roads – 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5mm-wave radars, 14 cameras and a 360 degree multi-perception integrated system.

It also has an intelligent full-scenario voice interactive system, integrating App stores and Alipay mini-program dual ecosystem, an 80.9kWh battery pack with energy density reaching 170Wh/kg, fast charging from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes, 120km range in 10 minutes and China’s first remote-controlled concealed charging plug.

High safety standards are incorporated too.

The car’s body is designed to lower air resistance to help deliver longer range and a quieter, smoother ride.

The P7 will be available through Xpeng’s sales network – about 113 outlets across 57 cities, and its service network of 73 stores in 52 cities.

Supercharging stations for the P7 have already reached 164 contracted and signed units across 35 cities.

Regular over-the-air upgrades are planned.

The P7 comes in 4WD high performance, rear wheel drive super-long range and rear wheel drive long range.
