‘One Way’ trips between Christchurch Airport and downtown Christchurch launched by EV car share service Yoogo Share are proving popular for Kiwis travelling in and out of the city.

Since officially launching at the beginning of July, the local start-up reports a strong uptake in use of one-way trips and a 40% month-on-month increase in membership numbers.

With pick-up and drop-off location located within the rideshare zone and an app-based booking system, Yoogo Share believe this service is as simple and as convenient as using ride share services, and more efficient than using a traditional rental service.

The launch of one-way trips alongside Yoogo Share’s after-hours subscription packages have contributed significantly to uptake of the service, which is New Zealand’s only car sharing service offering a fleet of only 100% BEVs.

The firm’s BMW i3s and Hyundai Ioniqs can be booked for one-way trips of up to 90 minutes between the airport and central business district for a $22 flat rate, with the ability to book longer trips charged at usual hour, day, night and weekend rates.

The service estimates that more than 200 tonnes of carbon emission savings have been made by their members since it launched in February 2019.
