Competition to find EV charger locations

An ‘Oceania EV Challenge’ has been launched by HERE Technologies to get people aged 16 and over in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands to record charging stations available to the public.

More than 130 prizes are offered contributors identifying charging stations and the services offered.

This data will be available in various platforms such as in-car navigation systems and HERE maps to contribute back to the EV community.

Such data can heavily contribute to the EV ecosystem and further adoption of EVs across Australia and New Zealand, the company says.

To simplify the process, HERE Technologies is using a third-party mobile application called ‘PlaceThem’, supported on both iOS and Android devices, which provides an easy-to-use platform for EV users and locals to share and maintain EV charging station information.

HERE Technologies is a leading provider of location data to automotive companies such as Mercedes Benz, Mazda, Toyota and Volkswagen – to name a few.

“With an increasing demand for charging stations for ever-growing EV numbers we have been developing a robust coverage of EV charging stations around the globe,” the firm says.

“With the vision to enable Australian and New Zealand drivers to find the right charging points faster and more reliably, we work closely with relevant organisations and individuals to map and keep track of the growing number of EV charging stations.”

Tesla only and residential only charging stations are invalid for the competition.

Prizes include a Huawei mobile phone, a Mini drone, home speakers, thermos flasks and a selection of HERE Technologies products such as portable chargers, earphones and Keep Cups.
