Danish government likely to heavily subsidise EVs

The Danish government is expected to propose a subsidy of 50,000 kroner (NZ$9255) for each of the next 100,000 electric cars sold in Denmark.

The proposal is one of several recommendations made by the Klimaradet climate council.

The council is confident the measure will put 100,000 more EVs on Danish roads despite the government’s commitment to restoring registration taxes, The Copenhagen Post reports.

EVs comprise just 0.5% of all road vehicles in Denmark.

Danish newspaper Berlingske

reports that Danish prime minister Lars Løke Rassmussen will soon reveal new ambitious climate goals that will help the case for EVs.

These are set to include a total phasing-out of petrol and diesel-driven cars by 2030.
