Deal done on EV batteries

Electric vehicle battery firm Magnis has signed a four-way agreement with Singapore-based electric hypercar maker Dendrobium to develop and produce lithium-ion batteries for EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).

The deal also involves Dendrobium Automotive, Dendrobium Advanced Technologies and Charge CCCV LLC (C4V) and will see high performing batteries, including semi-solid batteries, produced for Dendrobium.

“Dendrobium will be producing high performance vehicles and electric drivetrain solutions for third parties,” Dendrobium chief executive officer Nigel Gordon-Stewart says.

Singapore’s first hypercar, the Dendrobium D-1 electric, has been developed by Singapore electric mobility company Vanda Electrics and Williams Advanced Engineering, part of the Williams Formula1 Group.

Magnis is also involved in a consortium planning a A$2 billion, 15GWh lithium-ion battery factory in Townsville, Queensland.

A working group has been formed to develop and produce high performance batteries using technology developed by C4V and Magnis.

It will co-operate on battery packaging solutions, battery hybrid systems, battery management software, battery performance testing and battery development materials.

C4V president Shailesh Upreti says the agreement will help develop next generation products for the EV market.

“This agreement also demonstrates how electrochemists, scientists, engineers, mining and automotive experts need to work together as a team to develop next generation products for the rapidly evolving EV market.”
