Electric Day Pass roll-out starts

Europcar Mobility Group New Zealand will roll-out its Electric Day Pass after receiving $202,768 from the Government’s low emission vehicles contestable fund.

The Electric Day Pass is a low emission airport-based round trip car rental/share service.

Initially based at five airports throughout New Zealand, it will offer competitive rates to domestic travellers wanting to experience driving a battery electric vehicle (BEV) as part of their daily business or personal trip.

This co-funding will go towards the vehicle lease costs of 12 BMW i3s, charging infrastructure and marketing, with the aim of increasing EV demand within the rental vehicle sector – the largest corporate purchaser of passenger vehicles in New Zealand.

“After the successful Electric Day Pass pilot back in 2017 and the introduction of the Volkswagen e-Golf on our day-to-day fleet, we’ve had an influx of our business and leisure customers renting the eco-friendly vehicle”, Europcar Mobility Group New Zealand general manager Stephen Jones says.

“Business and consumers are more concerned about their carbon footprint than any other time in history,” he adds.

“Key gateway airports understand the positive impact the Electric Day Pass pilot had on their region’s environmental and sustainable initiatives and moving forward we will look to roll this product out into further regional New Zealand airport locations.”
