Electric Opel Corsa-e revealed

Opel is offering a first battery-electric version of its sixth generation Corsa with a 50kWh battery pack and 330km range.

Orders are being taken in Europe for the new top of the line “first edition” Opel Corsa-e, with the more standard EV also available from 29,900 euros (Germany) with the price reduced by incentives in certain areas.

The five-seat Corsa-e has a 100kW power output, 260Nm maximum torque, advanced safety systems, LED headlights, a fully digitalised cockpit, 17-inch alloy wheels, can be fast-charged to 80% in 30 minutes, and more.

“We promised an electric car for the people – and we are delivering”, Opel chief executive officer Michael Lohscheller says. “By 2024 we will offer – without exception – an electrified version of every model.”

The myOpel app enables optimisation of charging times and costs while travelling.

Order books for the Grandland X as a plug-in hybrid are also open. Two more all-electric Opel models will arrive in 2020 – the Vivaro and the successor to the Mokka X.

Opel is one of the largest European car manufacturers, based in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and part of the Groupe PSA since August 2017. Together with its British sister brand Vauxhall, the company is represented in more than 60 countries selling over a million vehicles in 2018.

Meanwhile, Rüsselsheim plans to establish 1300 EV charging stations by 2020 to cope with the rapidly growing number of EVs, with help from a 12.8 million euros government grant.

However, Reuters reports full installation could be delayed about two years because of red tape, staff shortages and a lack of hardware.

With help from Opel, Rüsselsheim intends providing one charging point per 72 people – the highest in Europe.
