Electrics from Renault Trucks next year

Production will start on a range of electric vehicles next year, Renault Trucks says.

The move will capitalise on the experience gleaned from ten years of testing electric trucks in real-life conditions with customer-partners, the company says.

These all-electric trucks are designed for use in urban and peri-urban areas and will be produced at the Renault Trucks plant at Blainville-sur-Orne in Normandy, France.

“Our commercial experience with the Electric Maxity (a 4.5-tonne electric truck produced in 2010) has enabled us to bring our network up to speed on selling, servicing and repairing electric vehicles,” Renault Trucks energy efficiency strategy head François Savoye says. “Today’s electric vehicles are a competitive solution, which was not the case in 2010.”

Renault Trucks can take advantage of research and development resources offered by its parent company the Volvo Group, which is also producing electric trucks.

The Renault Trucks company is separate from Zoe electric car maker Renault – part of the Renault-Nissan alliance.
