EV charger funding concerns mount
The National-led coalition government is considering a new funding model to meet its 10,000 public EV charging stations promise.
EV advocate the Better NZ Trust chair Kathryn Trounson says it’s an “aspirational number to sound good” and she wonders how it will be achieved with 1400 public EV chargers now available.
National promised $257million by 2030 to provide the extra public EV chargers, but this year’s budget included $95m, says INews.
Transport minister Simeon Brown told 1News a new plan is being developed as part of the coalition agreement with the ACT Party.
“We’re currently working through a new funding model around how we can maximise private sector investment in EV charging so we can grow those numbers.”
Brown reckons more decisions on how that will work will be made later this year.
