EV charging prices compared globally

Charging an electric vehicle is usually far cheaper than filling with petrol or diesel, but just how much does it cost to charge around the world?

New research from car insurance experts Compare the Market analyses the cost of fully charging a Tesla Model S (100kWh battery charge and 416.8km per charge) in 36 countries.

While the comparison table shows currency conversions in pounds, euros and dollars, it’s presumed – but not stated – that the dollars are US$ figures. EVtalk is seeking to clarify that.

Australia is one of the cheapest at $11 – in third place with Canada, while New Zealand is mid-range at $20 (same as Norway and Switzerland) and Denmark among the dearest at $34.

Chile leads the cheapest countries with $7, while some of the more expensive include Germany ($33), Belgium ($28), Italy ($27) and Ireland ($26).

In the US it costs on average $13 to fully charge a Tesla Model S – the seventh cheapest country, costing on average 50 cents for every 16km driven.
