EV charging study planned

Vector is offering Auckland’s early adopters of battery electric vehicles a chance to be part of its Smart EV Charging study.
“As more Aucklanders transition to EVs, it is essential that we understand our customer’s needs and how they use smart charging technology,” Vector says.
Study results will provide electricity and gas distributor with vital information on how it can cost-effectively prepare for the rapid uptake of EVs across its network.
“If you are selected to participate in the 18-month study, you will receive a 7kW smart EV charger installed at your home for free (terms apply),” Vector says. The charger delivers up to three times the charging speed of a trickle charger or standard 2.4kW wall plug.
Vector will collect data on how the smart charger is being used.
It will hold a focused trial over six consecutive months and will remotely manage the smart charger’s speed to optimise power consumption at peak times on the network.
Those selected will be surveyed on the charger’s use and overall satisfaction.
