EV incentives increase in Germany

Germany has boosted EV incentives as part of a 130 billion euro post COVID-19 stimulus package and will increase taxes next year on polluting vehicles.

EVs costing less than 40,000 euros now get 3000 euros more, providing a total subsidy of 6000 euros from the government and a total discount of 9000 euros.

That’s expected to push up sales of EVs like the Tesla Model 3 and VW ID.3 – the latter due soon.

Germany already had an EV incentive plan that stood out in Europe and was different from many because it was negotiated with the auto industry which contributes half, Electrek reports.

It updated the incentives last year, half of a 6000 euro subsidy paid by the government and the rest by the auto industry.

The latest move is expected to provide further incentives for buying EVs like the BMW i3, Hyundai Ioniq Electric and Kona Electric, Kia Nero Electric, Peugeot 208 Electric, Renault Zoe, and Tesla Model 3.
