EV promo backfires on Auckland mayor

Auckland mayor Len Brown is under fire for his parking, and social media skills.
Brown was out on the road in a council Nissan Leaf EV this morning, and was photographed parked part way across a cycle lane by Vector’s EV charging station in Newmarket.
He was being interviewed on television at the time.
After being sprung by the NZ Herald, he posted an ‘apology’ online:
Out test driving one of our new EVs and refilling at a charging stations. Unable to park without impinging briefly on a cycle lane #SorryCyclists
The public were quick to take to Brown over the issue. Comments included:
“Bike lanes are for bikes If the mayor can park in a bike lane, then I can too right?”
“Leading by example I see. Find a park some where else! Bike lanes are for bikes.”
“Juliet Williams Parking illegally and showcasing it isn’t really a great call…”
