EV provision at new Christchurch rental hub

Major rental car brands are set to group together in central Christchurch in a new $10 million dollar development – and electric vehicles are being accounted for.

Avis, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty and Apex will live together in the ‘International Rental Car Precinct, to be built on the corner of Manchester and Kilmore Streets according to Stuff.co.nz.

Part of the facility will account for up to ten EV charging stations.

The property is being developed by Craig Nicholas, and will be completed in May next year.

Since the earthquakes, rental options have been dotted around the city.

“It’s no longer economic for all these rental companies to have their own sites – it just doesn’t work out,” Nicholas told Stuff. “There’s some economy of scale in having it in a dedicated building.”

Facility will have individual reception, on-site petrol and diesel tanks, car washing and grooming facilities and 130 onsite car parks.
