Just like in October’s 1053 increase on September, new light pure electrics and new light plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) paved the way.

Buoyed by Tesla Model 3 sales (408 units), the MG ZS EV (121) and Hyundai Ioniq 5 (100), the new light pure electric category was up 899 (10,992 in November compared with 10,093 in October).

And for new light PHEVs, registrations recorded by the Ministry of Transport also show a 443 rise – from 5520 in October to 5953 last month – with the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV on 171 units, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV on 100 and the MG HS PHEV at 40.

Used light pure electrics like the Nissan Leaf were up 259 (from 14,865 in October to 15,124 In November) and used light PHEVs like the Outlander rose by 121 (from 3066 in October to 3187 in November).

Heavy EVs continue to pick up, rising by 14 from 295 in October to 309 in November.

Regions shackled by COVID-19 are easing restrictions under the new “traffic light” system both prior to an after Christmas, expected to foster a surge in EV enquiries and sales.

And supply constraints such as shipping issues, semiconductor shortages and port logjams are also reported to be softening globally.
