EV sellers welcome Clean Car Discount programme
Vehicle dealerships with an EV selection are already touting those which meet the newly announced Clean Car Discount programme rebate threshold.
Hyundai New Zealand says several models eligible for rebates include the recently released Kona Electric Series II (484km range), the Ioniq range and the launch in coming months of the Ioniq 5, that Hyundai New Zealand and its dealer network have EV stock on the ground now and expect steady supply of selected EV models for the rest of 2021.
“Any initiatives to get more Kiwis to consider EVs is a good thing,” Hyundai New Zealand general manager Andy Sinclair says.
“Programmes like this make EVs more accessible for New Zealanders.”

MG Motor New Zealand says the programme will also reduce the price of its all-electric and electric-hybrid range.
From July 1, purchasers of a new MG ZS EV are entitled an $8625 rebate, effectively reducing the starting price to only $40,365 (plus on-road costs) to eligible New Zealand buyers, it says.
“We reduced price barriers to fast-track EV ownership in New Zealand, and this announcement aligns with our vision of ‘Electric For Everyone’,” MG Motor Australia and New Zealand chief executive Peter Ciao says.
The announcement of the rebate for plug-in hybrid vehicles comes as MG prepares to officially launch its latest new low-emission SUV, the HS Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), with consistent supply of the new model scheduled to arrive over coming months.
It’s priced from $52,990 plus on-road costs which, with the application of the rebate, will fall to start from $47,240 (plus on-road costs) from July 1 to eligible New Zealand buyers.
“This progressive EV strategy from the New Zealand Government means that many more Kiwis will soon enjoy zero-emission sustainable motoring,” Ciao says.

Renault New Zealand says its EV range, which incudes the Zoe and the Kangoo van, will be eligible or rebates too.
The new Zoe with 395km range arrives in New Zealand in August and keen Kiwis can pre-order online now to secure a unit, Renault NZ says.
“Range improvements, combined with the Clean Car Discount programme, makes it easier for Kiwis to make the switch to EVs,” Renault New Zealand general manager Sam Waller says.
“Once the new Zoe arrives in New Zealand, we will have selected models available to purchase immediately. Customers can also order a Renault Kangoo now.”
