EV tour continues north

It’s been a hectic time for those on the Leading The Charge tour over the last few days.

The team joined the throngs of people at the MTA100 event in Wellington for two days of promoting electric vehicles, with 860 people getting test drives in a variety of EVs.

Hyundai, Mitsubishi, VW, Audi, BMW, Tesla, Kia, Nissan and Renault Electric are some of the manufacturers along for the ride.

Road trip participant Steve Withers says he talked non-stop from 9am to 5.20pm at the event.
The Nissan Leafs on show played an important part, he says.

“As the “affordable” EVs, help counter the idea they are for rich people.

“My Tekna made it clear they don’t have to skimp on features in that price range if they don’t want to. But mainly the ideas that they could get a basic EV for $12K or a 200km range, virtually new EV for $35,000-$45,000 was very well received.”

ChargeNet New Zealand’s display also showcased the huge growth in charging infrastructure over the past 12 months.
The tour then headed north to Palmerston North yesterday, where the cars were put on display The Square for all to see.

Today, the team continue east towards Hastings and Napier.
