EVAA ‘clean car’ guide encourages submissions

A guide to the Government’s proposed ‘clean car’ plan for fuel emission standards and a ‘feebate’ scheme has been produced by the Electric Vehicle Association of Aotearoa (EVAA).

It encourages submissions by the August 20 close, listing 30 points on the ‘clean car standard’ (emissions) and ‘clean car discount’ (feebate) requiring ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answers with an explanation included as to why a particular choice is suggested.

“Specifically, we want to send a message that while we welcome action on EV policy, there are some major concerns with the policy as it stands, and we, the EV community would like to help refine that plan,” the EVAA says.

The help sheet is designed to make it easier for people to provide submissions, enabling copying and pasting or editing from it to get the desired result for each submitter.

The EVAA says it’s important to show support for the policy, including improvements, and suggesting a speedier introduction that 2021 or when regulatory obligation on an annual emissions target starts in 2022.

In an explanation, the EVAA says waiting for three years for a Clean Car Standard to take effect and then another year for compliance is too long.

“The policy is needed as soon as possible. A short phase in period to allow industries to respond is appropriate, but four years is too long.”

The association says it has collaborated closely with EV enthusiast, owner, advocate and Christchurch EV Community representative Will Hunter to develop the guide.
