EVolocity’s 2019 programme launched

A cutaway Nissan Leaf proved a main attraction at the Waikato EVolocity 2019 schools programme launch on March 7.

EVolocity involves teams displaying and racing two to four-wheel EVs designed and built themselves at regional and national competitions.

About 350 students, teachers and support crew attended the event at the Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintech) run in conjunction with the Waikato Engineering Careers Association (WECA).

Sponsor Hamilton Electric Vehicles in association with The Better New Zealand Trust and EV City (Christchurch) were able to bring “X Ray”, the cut in half Leaf, to the event from Christchurch.

“It was a massive crowd puller and everyone loved it – Dave Boot and his EV City team deserve huge credit for the idea and creating X Ray,” Hamilton EV’s Shane Hobson says.

“It truly is a fantastic hands-on experience with multi discipline and very innovative mechanical, electrical and engineering practices.”

The EVolocity 2019 programme launch was also held in Auckland (March 9), Palmerston North (Manawatu, March 6), Wellington (March 5) and Bay of Plenty (February 8), with Canterbury’s launch due on March 13.
