EVs’ big day out

About 200 people attended the first EV Community Day at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park between Auckland and Hamilton on October 7.

EV owners grabbed the chance to drive around the 2.8km race track.

Justin Boyd from organising group the Electric Vehicle Association of Aotearoa (EVAA) says the day was a great success and he hopes it will run again next year.

A McLaren and a Tesla Model S P100D raced twice, the McLaren winning a lap around the track but then losing a drag race over a much shorter stretch.

Nearly 50 EVs turned out on the day, with BMW and Hyundai also bringing some.

The EV day out raised more than $600 for the EVAA to help launch its website.
